Research indicates that women are searching for community, camaraderie and companionship. They also want to grow and mature in their mothering skills, as well as in their spiritual lives. Apples of Gold fills all of these needs. It's not just a mentoring ministry; it's not just a cooking class. It's a nurturing, inter-generational connection that teaches women how to respect their husbands; love their children; and practice submission, hospitality, kindness and purity. As Scripture says:
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Titus 2:3-5
By equipping older women to lovingly and supportively train younger women through biblical lessons and a weekly sharing time together, Apples of Gold preserves traditional values. It rebuilds marriage relationships, offers insight on overwhelming parent-child relationships and emphasizes the importance of spiritual development. Apples of Gold is building up mothers, marriages and lives worldwide.
At God's nudging in 1995, Betty Huizenga developed the Apples of Gold program to share with younger women what she has learned about marriage, parenting and creating a Spirit-filled home. Since starting Apples of Gold in her home church in Holland, Michigan, classes have spread across the country and around the world. Betty and her husband, Lee, have enjoyed a long marriage and have four children and eight grandchildren, and divide their time between Holland, Michigan and Sanibel, Florida.
The Vinewood Apples of Gold will be offering a session starting August 12th, which runs six consecutive weeks on Wednesday evenings from 5:30P - 8:30p. A final Celebration Meal with husbands, or a friend, will be on Saturday, September 26th.
