The Vinewood Preschool Staff is dedicated to helping the minds and hearts of our students grow.

Debi Hyzdu,
Director and Teacher

I began teaching and Co-Directing at Vinewood Preschool in 1992. I became the solo Director in 2018. My husband Bryan and I actually got married at Vinewood Church (home of Vinewood Preschool) in 1979. We have three wonderful children with great spouses and three incredible grandkids.

My favorite part of teaching is the interaction and personal connections that are formed with the preschool children and their families. I learn from them, challenge them, and believe in them. Every day is different and full of promise. I have the opportunity to help instill within them a lasting love for learning and prepare the children for Kindergarten. They are part of my heart forever.

Fun Fact:

I enjoy being with people. I have never eaten in a restaurant by myself or gone to a movie alone in my entire life! My favorite foods are bacon and dark chocolate.  They’re both gluten free so they must be healthy!

Doreen Compton,

I began teaching at Vinewood Preschool in 1992. I have 3 children, 2 grandkids and 1 on the way! My daughter is getting married in the Summer of 2019. I enjoy spending time with all my friends and family.

My favorite thing about teaching Preschool is seeing how much the children benefit from being in a social environment. For the 3 year olds it is sometimes their first time being away from their parents. Since I teach the Pre-k class also, I get to see how much they grow and become independent. I know learning to write their names and to use scissors and color in the lines is important, but I believe getting those social skills is crucial for their growth.

Fun Fact:

I have gone deep sea fishing in Mexico where I caught albacore tuna and fished in Oregon and caught Salmon. I love the ocean and fishing was a fun experience.

Nicole Grauman,

I began teaching at Vinewood Preschool in 2019! Before teaching preschool I spent time teaching at the college, and middle school levels.

I was born and raised in Lodi, and still live here with my eight year old daughter who is a Vinewood Preschool alum! We also attend Vinewood Church, so it feels good to be “home”!

I am looking forward to teaching preschool because it’s such a fun age, and I like to have fun! I am excited to connect with my student’s parents, build relationships with my students, and help them learn in a loving environment.

Fun Fact:

I love online shopping! I buy clothes, books, more books, and even groceries online. Once I even bought a disco ball!

Pennie Jones,

Teacher's Assistant

I have been working at Vinewood Preschool as a Teacher or Teacher’s assistant for approximately 27 years. My husband Danny and I moved to Lodi with our 2 daughters about 28 years ago. Since then we have added 4 grandchildren to our family. We really love living in Lodi.

It’s hard to pick just one favorite thing about working at the preschool. I really enjoy watching the children make friends and seeing how these relationships grow. I also enjoy seeing the excitement on the children’s faces when we do our science experiments in Pre-K.

Fun Fact:

I love being a grandmother. All of my grandchildren have attended Vinewood Preschool and my fourth grandchild will attend in 2019/2020. Also, my husband and I love to take cruises. I think that is the best way to take a vacation and relax!

Diane Juarez,

Teacher's Assistant

My employment with Vinewood Preschool began in 1998. When I was initially hired I filled the position as the Preschool Secretary. After 3 years as the secretary I stepped into the position of Teacher’s assistant which I have thoroughly enjoyed ever since. My husband and I have 2 great children and we are thankful they have both have wonderful spouses. We are welcoming out first grandchild in the summer of 2019!

The best part about my job is developing trusting relationships with the children and their families. I love to engage with the children and observe each different personality. The conversations that ensue are priceless. As each school year comes to an end I reflect on the progress that the children have achieved, both socially and academically, and feel privileged to have played a small part in  it.

Fun Fact:

My favorite vacation spot is anywhere by the ocean with my family.

Michelle Stevhan,

My little family of three recently moved to Lodi to be closer to my husband’s family. I have worked in
secretary positions as well as a SLPA position in publics schools. I love my 1 year old daughter, Nessie,
and love working with children and families. It is such a blessing to see and support children’s growth in
language, play, and to prepare them for the new adventures of kindergarten and beyond!

Fun Fact:
I LOVE Disney! I am waiting to take my daughter to Disneyland because we are still trying to plan out the
perfect day. Also, I love showing her new Disney movies, she loves the music…but I think I am still more
into them than she is at this point!
